Older People

Positive Ageing

Ageing well in Ireland is dependant upon positive attitudes to ageing by all. We work to encourage positive attitudes to ageing in the Tolka Area in the following ways.

Ageing with Confidence Programme

The aim of Ageing with Confidence is to offer a holistic approach to health promotion. It aims to enhance the development of older people by providing education for health, by developing life skills and by promoting positive mental health and self-confidence. The programme is delivered to increase participants’ self confidence by: facilitating people to explore their own ageing; challenging the myths and stereotyping that lead to ageism; and providing information on physical, psychological and social aspects of growing older.

The programmes are being offered in Finglas first as part a wider Get Vocal initiative. Funding for this programme was accessed through Age and Opportunity. If you would like to take-part in an Ageing with Confidence programme please contact Patricia Burke at 01-8643847 or patricia.burke@tap.ie for more information.

Failte Isteach

Failte Isteach is a community project with volunteers welcoming new migrants through conversational English classes.  It is a unique project which utilises the skills, talents and expertise of older volunteers and harnesses their desire to contribute positively to society. Failte Isteach has now begun in Cabra.  It is being held in Tolka Area Partnership offices on Annamoe terrace from 6-8pm every Tuesday evening.  Numbers attending are growing each week and new older volunteer tutors would be most welcome.  Please contact Cathy Reinhardt 01-8643847 or cathy.reinhardt@tap.ie for more information.
