Finglas Youth Study Support Groups
Introduction
The Study Support Group was set up in response to the presenting need of some of the young participants of The Den (CYC) youth club, Finglas South. A number of the young people approached a youth worker seeking help in preparing for their their end of year exams, they also felt they needed help with school work and study.
In response, the Finglas Youth Services and the Tolka Area Partnership piloted an after school Leaving Certificate study support programme. With the success of this programme we expanded to take in two Junior Cert Groups and hope to expand even further in the future.
Programme Aim
The aim of the programme is provide a positive environment where young people feel safe, and with support are ready to challenge the difficulties they are having with their studies. To enable the young people to become more confident in their own abilities using the strategies they have learnt during the programme
Programme Objectives
- Increase in young person’s attendance at school
- Increase in young person’s self-confidence
- Increase in young person’s academic ability (reading, writing, numeracy)
Increase in young person’s ability to write essays and complete homework
